Floating studio

Pistoia, Italy - 2010

Inside an apartment on two levels, located in an eighteenth-century building in the historic center of the city, the client asked to get a space to devote to personal study. The project involved the construction of a mezzanine to be placed within the double volume that characterizes the living area. An object / sculpture, magical, with an organic shape, almost spherical, slightly flattened to the two poles, hanging from thin steel rods anchored to the mighty beams of the ceiling that were placed as a generator element and organizer of the entire apartment. A small chest, made of chestnut wood, dedicated to reading, study and contemplation, which could put the observer in constant tension between the feelings transmitted by the materiality and the heaviness of the wooden mass and the lightness and impalpability of trajectories and unpredictable paths that the mind can trace.
